Held at the station on North Avenue, the event turned the area around the Victorian-era building into a gathering place for dogs of all shapes and sizes, many dressed in creative costumes for the occasion.
From outfits inspired by popular movies, including Toy Story, to whimsical fairy wings and other imaginative ensembles, the participating pups provided plenty of entertainment for spectators and fellow dog owners alike.
The morning’s festivities included a dog costume parade and contest, with awards in categories such as Most Creative, Best in Show, Cutest, Silliest and Scariest. Dogs and their owners showed off their costumes while families gathered to watch and cheer on the participants.
Beyond the costume competition, visitors enjoyed a variety of dog-focused booths and activities, giving pet owners a chance to explore offerings geared toward their four-legged companions.
The celebration also drew plenty of families with young children. Children’s activities, including a stuffed animal adoption table and appearances by Bluey and Paw Patrol, made the event enjoyable for visitors of all ages.
Cloudy skies threatened rain throughout the morning, but the weather held off, and the brisk autumn air made a fitting backdrop for the seasonal celebration.
The setting added a touch of local history. The festivities unfolded in front of Fanwood’s station, built in 1874, one of the borough’s most recognizable landmarks, where restoration work is now underway.
Fan WOOF Day has become an established part of Fanwood’s community calendar, offering residents and their neighbors in nearby towns a chance to gather, celebrate their pets and enjoy a relaxed morning together.
