The funding comes through the Union County Improvement Authority’s 2026 Capital Project Grant Program, in partnership with the Union County Board of County Commissioners. No local matching funds are required.
Planned improvements to the approximately 2.8-acre property at 2435 Plainfield Avenue include reconfiguring the sports field to accommodate more age groups in baseball and softball programs. New safety netting will help protect players, spectators and neighboring homes, while covered dugouts and benches will provide shade and improved accommodations for players.
The project also includes drainage and stormwater improvements, along with an expanded 9/11 memorial that will remain a central part of the property.
“We want Memorial Field to be a place where children of all ages can develop their skills, build friendships and create lasting memories,” said Recreation Commission Chair Mike Walsh.
The township anticipates approximately 30 months to complete the project, beginning with site investigations, engineering design and permitting before bidding and construction. Additional details will be shared as planning progresses.
